It’s election year 2016. We’ve had to put a hold on filming the pilot of Cassandra’s Castle though we do have a wonderful teaser with Robert Miano which you can view at the end of this post if you so wish. But I’m switching gears with my blog, and since there is so much political unrest happening, I’ve decided to use my blog at this moment in time (not always and forever) as a soapbox. Not for any agenda, but for voicing opinions which I feel really passionate about.
Cassandra’s Castle was inspired by the last king of Portugal, Manuel II. You all know that because I’ve been writing about it from the beginning. It’s about a rebellion, a regicide, and an exile. Strangely enough, the persuasion of the story is in favor of the monarchy.
Kings and queens have always been a source of despise and ridicule. Countless monarchies were corrupt, envious, blood thirsty and cruel. That doesn’t mean that all of them were and after studying the monarchy of Portugal, listening to the people who are still alive who remember, I was convinced that King Carlos’ small family did the best they could to help their county climb out of poverty.
Of course the general consensus was that they were spendthrifts (even though King Carlos paid all of Portugal’s debt and did much to alleviate the great tuberculosis epidemic that was spreading all over the world). Still the media had its way and to this day people wouldn’t see all the facts unless they searched long and hard.
Why am I talking about 1908 Portugal? Because there was a political conspiracy that was being implemented all over the world and hence WWI began.
Division, lies, corruption, power, greed…the evils of mankind ran rampant and I can’t help but wonder, as unrest sweeps through our nation today…has anything changed?
