Who Am I?

I am a Jamaican-Chinese hybrid born in the US that sees the world just the same: a mash-up of different stories. After living all over Japan for close to a decade, I am now based in Itoshima, Fukuoka. My mission is to funnel my experience in Japan through my books to both entertain and challenge readers.

In Hiroshima, a city reborn from ashes, “Faces of Japan ” resumes the thrilling saga of Yuki, a master Noh theater mask maker, and Kwame, a Ghanaian art collector from “Yokai Shadows” (included in every tier). Both are dedicated to preserving the essence of Japanese culture. But captured by the malevolent Kappa, our heroes are thrust into the Yokai world, buckling under threat of the Kappa’s authoritative rule. Their mission: craft a unique Noh mask, imbued with the blessings of the right Yokai, to seal away the Kappa and her hatred of human creativity.

Yuki is a lifelong participant in the Noh Theater world. Her father was legendary in mask making, and that pressure to continue his legacy bears down on her daily. She has a deep wish to do her part in keeping traditional Japanese crafts alive, despite its sharp decline. The threat of mass modern manufacturing threatens her world constantly. Once the yokai world clashes with her own and disrupts her daily balance, she’s jolted out of her rhythm. Will she accept the many forms of creativity to stop the yokai from wiping out humanity?

Kwame is a Ghanaian art dealer who’s spent the better part of a decade in Japan. He works with wealthy African entrepreneurs, artists, and politicians who collect Japan’s treasured crafts in bulk. His mission is to take the techniques of preserving history in art back to Ghana and the wider African continent. After 10 years living abroad, he connects with Yuki after countless shallow relationships. Will he be able to defend traditional Japanese crafts with her from the Kappa?

Washi Paper

This book will be printed on traditional washi paper from Tottori prefecture. The official name is Inshu Washi. It is trusted by professional calligraphy artists across Japan.

Short Film

The short film will cover the events of the story in a condensed format. It will be 100% AI-generated. Well, not really. The story and idea is mine. But I need some help with the visuals and sonics. I know it’s a contentious point for many. But as a creative, the way I see it is: AI is here. Adapt or die. So, I’m using my books to realize a dream I’ve had for a while: directing my own films.
